The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that kids have their first orthodontic visit at age 7 to evaluate how their jaws and teeth are developing.  In most cases, early identification of problems can make treatment easier and more pain-free!  Here is a list of problems that may indicate the need for early orthodontic intervention:

  • Poor bite relationship
  • Very crowded or very spaced out teeth
  • Thumb sucking or other oral habits
  • Premature loss of baby teeth
  • Protruding teeth
  • Speech difficulty
  • Facial imbalance or asymmetry

Simply put, early evaluation of your child’s teeth and jaws allows Dr. Manfred to troubleshoot during the ideal orthodontic growth window. After your child’s first evaluation, Dr. Manfred will either recommend early treatment or she will monitor your child’s growth and development every 6-12 months.
